If you’re in your 40s, you can still maintain a youthful appearance with the right makeup choices and application techniques (besides investing in a good skincare routine, and maintaining a healthy diet, and exercising regularly.) Read on to find out all you need to know about makeup for women over 40.

Expert Tip – Blending is key – it’s the main secret to a flawless-looking base because there are no harsh lines that you’re left with. Also, less is more, and we can’t stress upon this one enough.

What you need to cover those dark circles, spots and blemishes is a creaseless concealer that lasts all day long. Since skin is much drier around the eyes in your 40s, it’s best to choose a concealer with a more liquidy consistency than a heavier stick or even a waterproof formula (these tend to settle and dehydrate your skin.)

Expert Tip- To keep your concealer from grabbing attention to wrinkles or crow’s feet, apply it only on the inner halves of your under-eye area to cover up the darkness.

 

  1. Blush – Blush is essential for your beauty routine. Want to know why? It instantly adds a radiant, healthy glow in one quick sweep. When it comes to wearing blush – ditch anything that’s too frosty. Peachy/pink shades are perfect for all skin tones and can be worn day or night.

Even if you like to keep your makeup routine to a minimum, skipping blush will wash you out and make you look older. On the other hand, a gentle sweep will add a warm, healthy glow and make a huge difference.

 

Expert Tip – A common mistake lot of us make is applying blush too low on the cheeks. Begin applying the product at the height of the apple of your cheek and blend it upwards and back to define and lift your features. Add some highlighter to your cheekbones and the tip of your nose for some definition.

Expert Tip– First of all, put your tweezers away and invest in an eyebrow growth serum. Fill in your eyebrows with gentle hair-like strokes to fake naturally dense and balanced brows. Be careful to not overdo it with your eyebrow product and end up with cartoonish brows.

 

  1. Eyeliner, Eyeshadow & Mascara….oh my! – The right eye makeup techniques can make you look younger and take off years from your face. If you always look tired no matter how much sleep you get, use a double-duty concealer – choose a shade with yellow or orange undertones to conceal dark circles and highlight the area. When it comes to eyeshadow hues, go for warm, matte tones – mocha bases and peachy oranges will create the illusion of being well-rested. A good gel eyeliner, with a line that’s drawn as close to your lashes as possible, helps create the illusion of a thicker, darker lash line. Finally, curling your lashes and applying mascara will create definition and add depth to your eyes.

Expert Tip – Stay away from shimmery eyeshadows and cool-toned browns and greys as these hues will make your eyes look tired.

 

  1. Lipstick – Lipstick is the best way to finish off any look. One swipe of color can add so much life to your face and make you look polished. As we age, we tend to get lines around the mouth area, and you need to adopt a different lipstick application technique.

 

Here’s how you can apply lipstick with perfection in your 40s:

  1. Exfoliate your lips well to get rid of all the dead skin, so you’re left with smooth lips.
  2. Hydrate your lips using a moisturizing lip balm and let the formula absorb into your lips. Wait it out and wipe away any excess lip balm using a towel or a wipe.
  3. You can add a tiny dab of concealer on your lips if they’re pigmented.
  4. Use a lip liner pencil that matches your chosen color to lightly fill the mouth shape to prevent your lipstick from bleeding.

It’s hard to believe that 5 years ago, I was a “stay-at-home-mom” who lived her life at home with the kids, recovering from post-partum depression for the second time, and slowly losing my identity, confidence, and purpose. (Read more about my story here)
 
I do not want to seem ungrateful for being blessed with this opportunity. I know how blessed and privileged I was to have the opportunity to stay home with Stella, my youngest after she was born. We tried for two years to have another baby and suffered through 3 back to back miscarriages along the way. I savored every moment with my rainbow baby. But anyone who has left a competitive workforce before to take care of the kids and home knows how challenging this can be. There is another side to this “job” that many will never see or understand unless you’ve done it.
 
You know, the no-makeup days, workout clothes or leggings for days on end, days without showers, TV binges and emotional eating…just me? Maybe so…
 
I’m not here to say being a SAHM is easier or harder than working outside of the home, I’m just here to shed light on the struggles that do come with the job that people may not understand.
 
Loneliness, depression, feeling unworthy, feeling useless, and that I could not manage anything well. When I would go to social events, and others asked me what I did for a living, I would feel embarrassed to say that I was“a stay at home mom.” People would smile, say, “oh that’s so nice…” then the conversation would go nowhere because we lived different worlds and had nothing in common. I began to forget how to speak to adults. “Toddler” was my main language.
 
I love my role as a mom…most days. Let’s face it, I’m a crappy housewife. I love to cook but I hate to clean. Let’s not even get started with the laundry situation… I’m not good at it…or rather, I just hate it. Does hating those things make me a bad MOM? Or a bad wife?
 
 

Finding Myself

So…cue my introduction to direct sales.
 
Yes, I know that this industry gets so much backlash because people don’t understand how to market and work their business. So many people are doing it all wrong!!! Heck, even I had my stigmas but do you know what I learned in the 5 years that I’ve been in this industry?
 
Giving a woman the power to find her voice again with this type of platform can be so incredibly empowering for her. This industry allowed me to be creative, which I NEED. This industry gave me the ability to have my OWN accomplishments to be celebrated. It gave me my confidence back and a purpose outside of a rotating laundry and carpool schedule. It gave me financial independence and the ability to contribute back to my family in a way that personally made me happy to do. Maybe that’s not everyone’s mission as a SAHM but it was something I wanted.
 
So, my #1 goal in my network marketing career will always be to crush stigmas. (When you know better, you do better.) I have truly discovered a passion of mine is to lead and coach other women to build an income and an influence by showing them first hand the things I have learned along the way to be successful.

I’m not saying that you should use a BB cream to replace your skincare…. just to complement it. I recommend you follow a daily morning and night skincare routine. What BB cream can do for your skin is to offer moisturizing, skin smoothing coverage on top of your skincare. This ensures comfortable, all-day wear. In addition to offering a medium to full coverage.
 
 
 

Is BB cream better than a foundation for your skin?

BB cream is lighter than standard foundation coverage but thicker than a tinted moisturizer. BB creams can sometimes contain sunscreen, but their key ingredients are antioxidants to help protect skin against free radicals and damage from pollution.
 
CC stands for “color correcting” or “complexion correcting”. This product has a bit more coverage than the BB cream while still remaining lighter than foundation. CC creams will work better for those with discolored skin or age spots than BB creams.
 

Can you wear CC cream instead of a foundation?

Yes, absolutely if you are less is more type of person when it comes to makeup. But if the coverage is concerned, then no, cc cream is not better than a foundation. CC cream is basically used by women as a daily purpose cream which acts as a moisturizer, hydrates skin and gives some amount of glow.
 

Is BB or CC cream better for dry skin?

BB creams tend to be oilier than CC creams as they are focused more on hydrating dry skin. The matte finish of most CC creams is also great for those concerned with shiny or greasy skin. Sensitive, dry skin and redness. It’s important to select a BB or CC cream which is hypoallergenic, so it won’t irritate your skin.
 

Is BB cream or CC cream better for aging or mature skin?

Many also include anti-aging ingredients to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and SPF sun protection. The consistency of CC creams tends to be lighter, like a whipped airy texture, and they offer lighter and more luminous coverage than a BB cream.
 

Do you use CC cream with foundation?
