Chicory coffee benefits are amazing. Have you heard of chicory coffee yet? The roasted chicory root is minced, ground into the coffee grounds to infuse the flavor. It adds a rich flavor and an earthy flavor but doesn’t have a bitter taste. So think of it as a regular coffee that you can create in many different ways.
You can drink your chicory coffee as a hot beverage cup of coffee or create a cold brew at home. Think of it as an au lait but with a less amount of caffeine. I have been saving up all kinds of recipes to share with you, and I can not wait to try this. Some people love to use a french press, or drip coffee maker to get their coffee fix.
While researching, I discovered that chicory coffee first made its debut in France in the late 19th century and later made an appearance after the American Civil War in New Orleans. (Which makes sense since there is a French influence in New Orleans.) There were union naval blockades that kept coffee from being imported. The New Orleanians started mixing chicory root into their coffee to make their supply last longer.
To this day, one of my favorite New Orleans restaurants, Cafe du Monde, serves chicory coffee along with their world-famous beignets, and this is one of the good reasons you need to visit. Be sure to try the New Orleans roast the next time you are in the area.
